On January 8, at the Plaza Hotel, Jeon
Gun-sik was appointed as the 31st Chairman of the Korea Cement Association
during its extraordinary general meeting. The cement industry has long
recognized Chairman Jeon's extensive experience and leadership, having devoted
over 30 years to Hanil Cement and elevating the company to a leading position
in the industry. Amid the recent severe downturn in the construction sector and
the resulting decline in cement shipments, the industry expects the association
to make concerted efforts to address these pressing challenges and to play a
key role in fostering unity among cement companies.
In his inaugural address, Chairman Jeon
stated, “This year, due to the downturn in upstream industries, domestic cement
demand is likely to record its lowest level in 35 years, since the early 1990s.
With increasingly stringent environmental regulations and rising production
costs, the cement industry is facing an unprecedented crisis.” He emphasized,
“In the face of this crisis, we must adopt a proactive and thoughtful approach,
enhance our capacity for execution, and strive for the continued growth and development
of the cement industry.”
