Hanil Cement was established in 1961 as the 2nd ever cement company in Korea and has advanced as the most representative cement company equipped with a production capacity of 8.1 million tons annually.

Including the main plant of Danyang Plant, Hanil Cement has 25 local factories and distribution bases throughout the country. As of the end of 2021, Hanil Cement is recording sales figures of KRW 1,271 billion.

Having dedicated special efforts to make contributions towards the economic development of Korea over the last 60 years as the company of substantial management, reliability and respect for humanity Hanil Cement is administering substantial management, This includes policies toward advanced labor-management and improved welfare for employees on the basis of a stable financial structure.

    Hanil Cement has been dedicating much of its efforts to fair and transparent operations by employing an open management system in the earlier days. During the earlier days of factory establishment, Hanil Cement selected companies through competitive tendering and introduced open employment methods at the same time as it was established. As such, Hanil Cement has been making efforts to administer corporate management openly at all times. Also, Hanil Cement was designated as ‘Green Corporation’ by the government for the faithfulness in tax payments and income tax returns.

    The ‘faithful tax payment’ by Hanil Cement Is based on the elaborate management strategy to secure the maximum profitability through substantial management. While other companies focused on external growth and business expansion, Hanil Cement has been concentrating its efforts to substantial management rather than increase of scale, therefore tuned the frame of corporate management towards securing stable financial structure and profitability. Hanil Cement has been carrying out stable business operation based on the efforts for cost reduction, etc. through productivity improvement. In fact, the debt ratio of Hanil Cement as of the end of 2006 is 16%, which is very low compared to the average of overall businesses in Korea.

    Advanced Management Policies

    Compared to other companies, Hanil Cement is known to have administered a number of advanced management policies. In 1969m as the first in the cement industry, Hanil Cement administered public offering and established a labor union. Also, Hanil Cement installed the freefall type kiln for the first time in the world, exported products to overseas plants for the first time in Korea, established Daegwallyeong Ranch at an elevation of 1,000m, constructed Seoul Land, the first theme park in Korea and developed ready-mixed dry tar, the dry mortar type cement as the first in Korea. As such, Hanil Cement has been displaying activeness and even daring pursuit when necessary. From 1998, Hanil Cement took the first step in implementing corporate informatization system, therefore has been implementing groupware, the internal information and communications network, electronic authorization system, enterprise-level resource management system and manager information system, etc. one by one to establish the top-level corporate informatization system in Korea.

    ‘Pioneering Spirit’ of Hanil Cement

    With its business diversification policy, Hanil Cement has been promoting businesses mostly centering on backbone industries with clear causes. Also, rather than the easy way of taking over an existing company, Hanil Cement chose the method of pioneering a field by directly establishing a company. The examples include Hanil Jaya established as a local corporation of Indonesia in 1973 or the project of Daegwallyeong Ranch construction at 1000m above the sea level in 1974. The project of Seoul Land construction was also led by Hanil Cement in preparation for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.

    Welfare System based on Respect for Humanity

    The corporate spirit that ‘enterprise is people’, yet another philosophy of Hanil Cement, is the basis of the company’s management prioritizing respect for humanity. On the basis of this management philosophy, Hanil Cement has established an internal worker’s welfare fund of the highest standard considering the scale of company. On the basis of this, Hanil Cement is administering the welfare system of the highest level in Korea, such as to support tuition and free provision of housing, etc. Therefore, although it has almost been 47 years since the establishment of the first labor union, there has not been even a single incident of labor-management dispute.

    Most Respected Company in Korea

    Acknowledged of the unique management style, such as transparent management based on the spirit of respect for humanity and patriotic service through industry, etc. Hanil Cement has been selected as the ‘most respected company in Korea’ in the cement business division for twenty-first consecutive years since 2004 by the Korea Management Association. Also, Hanil Cement received prizes six times including the ‘Economic Justice Award’ organized by Citizens’ Coalition for Economic Justice as well as ‘Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit’ on the Invention Day of 2003 and Consumer Satisfaction Prize (Presidential Prize) on the ‘31st National Quality Management Contest’ in 2005. As such, Hanil Cement is being evaluated as a strong and substantial company to represent Korea by various organizations and institutes in Korea.
